Topic 4: Memory Learning And Improving Concentration!

It was week 3 when we learned about this. Honestly, when it comes to memorizing things and trying to concentrate on something, it's one my weaknesses. I don't do well in settings when memorization is needed. However, this topic has taught me how to enhance my memory and improve my concentration.

Speaking of memory, what is it exactly?

It refers to the process of taking in information from the world around us, processing it, storing it and later recalling that information.

You can see that I have quite a short memory from the picture below:

I have noticed this since years ago but didn't really know what to do. It has affected my studies greatly. However, I have learned that there are strategies or methods we can use to strengthen our memory. Activities that help us to memorize better include repeating words out loud, writing down small notes, etc. Having a good sleep schedule helps a lot too as the brain requires enough rest to work properly. Maybe this is what I lack since I am focusing a lot on assignments to the point where I neglect sleep...

But moving on, let's discuss about concentration!

What is concentration?

It is the ability to direct one's attention in accordance to one's will. In simpler words, it is the ability to focus the mind.

As a university student, it is essential to concentrate in class. Since my attention span is low, I have researched on how to focus better when studying:

  1. Avoid loud music or television
  2. Avoid distractions while studying
  3. Create a dedicated study area
  4. Set up a schedule and stick to it
  5. Develop a study strategy
  6. Develop objective and goals
  7. Use the SQR3 method when reading study materials
  8. Reward yourself after
